John, It is impossible to imagine, for those who stayed safe at home, what you went through in places like Vietnam and Kora. I have several friends who have done tours in Nam and the crackle of a radio or a firecracker going off is enough to put them into "fight" or "terror" mode (I wonder if there is really a difference between the two....). It makes me sad to think of another generation of men and women who are going to be bearing the scars of war - in a way, I think that Iraq will leave people at least as mentally screwed as Vietnam did - perhaps more. Our papers only seem to tally the dead. But what about our walking wounded....and our wounded who can no longer walk? What about the inevitable divorce rate amongst new returnees? What jobs are these soldiers going to be hired for? If I was ever privelaged to serve in government, there would be no soldier, sailor or airman who would ever have to worry about a job, an illness or injury, a meal or a decent place to live. Taking care of those who take care of us is an honor....and our real "National Debt."
